People of TFC: Andrew Cowart

Toccoa Falls College prides itself on the unique community that finds its home on out campus. The faculty, staff, and students all foster an environment of vulnerability and an atmosphere of pursuing Christ. Here at the Talon, we wanted to highlight a few of the students at TFC that help make the community what it is. For our second article in our series, we sat down with Andrew Cowart to get to know him and his take on the community here at TFC.

Andrew is a pastoral ministry major here at TFC. He grew up in Columbus Georgia as a pastor’s son at a church that his dad planted when Andrew was young. He graduated from Columbus High School and took a gap year before going to Columbus State University for a degree in Criminal Justice with intentions of becoming a game warden. Things began changing for him when he went to Iraq to work with medical needs in a refugee camp. At that point he began considering full time ministry. When he got back to the states, he worked in student ministry for two years and started looking for a school that would prepare him for ministry. As a fan of the HBO show Band of Brothers, Andrew came up to Toccoa to tour TFC as well as visit Currahee, a place rich in the history behind Band of Brothers. After that visit, he transferred to TFC to pursue a degree in pastoral ministries.

As a part of the TFC community, Andrew has become involved in multiple facets of campus. He is a culture creator on our campus, and we were privileged to get his take on the campus. The following excerpts from our chat with Andrew show his love for the community here at TFC as well as his plans for the future.

Are there any extracurricular you participate in, if so tell us about your experience in that activities.

Andrew is an officer in Toccoa Falls for Life and helps to plan events for the club. He got involved after attending an event and was pursued to be an officer through the pre-existing leadership. Through the club he has started to realize a lot of the deeper issues that the club addresses and stands against. Andrew is also a part of a group called “Band of Brothers” that meets in Forrest every Thursday. This is a fellowship based group that meets for both accountability and learning while ultimately pursuing the Lord. Andrew also plays music whenever he can. Last semester he was able to help lead worship in for Student Missions Fellowship, and he plays at New Life church whenever he gets the opportunity. Andrew also works in the library. Stop by and say hello next time you are there.

What are your plans for the future?

Andrew would love to plant a church as long as that is the direction the Lord leads. He wants the church’s goal to be multiplying. His vision is to plant a church in a larger city style area such as Athens to reach greatly diverse communities.

What do you love about the Community at TFC?

Community was something that Andrew was praying for at home. He prayed for encouraging friends, and upon his arrival at TFC the Lord answered his prayer. His friends at here are kind, loving, and really challenge him to be as close with the Lord as possible. His friendships depict iron sharpening iron, and they keep each other accountable.

Tell us about an experience that deepened community in your life.

In the first week of arriving at TFC, Andrew had a hard time settling in. Luke Spafford took the time to intentionally pull Andrew into his friend group. That led Andrew to meet his closest friends on campus. Luke stepping out of his way to include Andrew and make sure he was comfortable shaped his view of the campus.

If there was one thing you wanted to be remembered for on campus, what would it be?

Andrew would like to be remembered as someone who is loving and open. Someone who anyone can come to if they need to talk. His main desire is to be remembered as loving and compassionate.
