Learn About TFC’s Biology Concentrations

The Biology Department at Toccoa Falls College offers scientific instruction integrated with faith. In recent years, the department has increased their range of unique concentrations for students who hope to succeed post-graduation. Three specializations are available in TFC's biology department: Pre-Professional, Ecology and Environmental Science, and Public Health. Each concentration offers a wide selection of fascinating and engaging courses that are specific to a student’s concentration of choice.

Pre-Professional  

The Pre-Professional Concentration, commonly referred to as Pre-Medicine, prepares students to pursue a career or graduate study in life or health sciences. Students will learn the relationships between biology and other sciences, as well as problem-solving, critical thinking, laboratory, and data analysis skills. This concentration allows students to prepare for their future careers in the medical field. Students can choose from a variety of courses, including Biology, Organic Chemistry, Physics, and Genetics and they can tailor their open credit hours to fit their desired professional path. This is the ideal concentration for those whose goal is to attend medical school. 

Ecology and Environmental Science 

The Ecology & Environmental Science Concentration prepares students to pursue a career or graduate study in the field of ecology and environmental science. In this program, students will learn the interactions between humans and the environment, work with natural resources, and discover how to connect with and care for God’s creation. TFC's campus offers numerous opportunities to gain practical experience thanks to its abundance of natural resources. Students will have the chance to enroll in classes like Environmental Issues and Policy, Conservation and Restoration Ecology, Aquatic Biology and Wetlands, and Soil Science. This concentration is ideal for you if you love the outdoors! 

Public Health 

The Public Health Concentration focuses on scientific research and investigation that facilitates the development of students to pursue a career or graduate study in public health. In this program, students are prepared to serve communities with their health needs. It allows the integration of healthcare with Christian faith. Students will have the opportunity to take courses such as Medical Microbiology, Global Public Health, Fundamentals of Epidemiology, and Nutrition. This concentration allows students to experience healthcare in a different way.
