Voter’s Registration

A part of living in a country of democracy is the opportunity to vote on many critical issues. With the upcoming election, it is important for those who are of age to vote responsibly. Georgia’s deadline to register to vote in the Nov. 6 ​​election was on Oct. 9, but it is important to be educated on voters’ registration for future elections.

For Georgia residents, the registration process is simple. The first thing you will want to do is go to https://registertovote.sos.ga.gov. If you are not ​​registered, or are not sure if you are registered, click on the option: “am I ​​registered to vote?” This link will take you to an easy form, which asks for the basics of your name, birthday, and county. If you find you are not registered, go back and click on the option: “I want to register." This will direct you to another quick form. Upon completion, your registration will be sent in for processing, and you will get your voter's registration card in the mail. When this happens, you are officially set to vote! For those who are voting out of state, the process is fairly similar to Georgia’s. Residential college students will either need to vote via absentee ballot or travel home. The process of voting via absentee ballot is not hard. However, you will ​​need to allow yourself more time than if you were to vote in your city. In South Carolina for example, simply go to the state's voting site, and click “Absentee Voting.” You can either fill out and print an application online, or have an immediate family member request it for you. These application can be turned in by mail or in person. The application for absentee ballots are due 4 days prior to the election. If your application is approved, you will receive a ballot in the mail to fill out and return.

Overall, voting is not a difficult process if you know how to do it. It is important for every citizen to vote. Get educated on the voting process as well as the issues and candidates being voted upon, and make your voice known. Remember, every vote counts!
