Club Spotlight: Toccoa Falls For Life
Have you ever wanted to stand up for something that matters? Do you want to make a difference in the world that impacts people for Christ? So do the members of the Toccoa Falls For Life Club (TFFL), which is the Pro-Life club on campus. Their vision for TFC is that students wouldn’t settle for a blind belief in whatever they have been taught, but that they would seek out the facts and discover the real truth behind the reality of abortion. They are accomplishing this though educating and equipping young people to be competent participants in this discussion. The foundational belief fueling the formation and passion of TFFL is that life begins at conception and so the unborn child is therefore valuable and viable throughout every stage of pregnancy.
Seeking more clarity and information, I had the pleasure of interviewing the club's president: Taylor Barnes. When asked about the complex questions such as if abortion is morally righteous in the case of rape or medical emergency where the mother's life is in jeopardy, she emphasized that the club does not in any way attempts to undermine or underestimate the pain and hardship these situations bring. Barnes spoke about how grace and love must be extended to the women put in these inestimably difficult situations, but also that in these cases, the baby's rights as a person must be acknowledged and protected to the utmost extent.
Recently, this issue has become increasingly discussed and debated over social media, the news, and just about everywhere else. It has become a source of division and outrage, even within the church. That is why the need for a place of open discussion and education is so vital right now. Our knowledge and competency on this issue must go beyond the occasional social media rant and news channel headline. We must find out what the truth of the situation is and take a stand to defend the innocent.
The TFFL club is hosting several Apologetic Night events this semester that will feature a video series done by The Life Institute, which is an organization advocating for the unborn. These events will also have opportunities for open discussion that everyone is welcome to join in on, regardless of their stance or foreknowledge on the issue. Of course, free food will be available! The next event will take place in Woerner Missions room 104 on Thursday, March 7th at 8pm. It will be a impactful night you do not want to miss.
