Student Organization Fair Highlight

Toccoa Falls College has an active body of students who pursue ways to get involved with others. Whether that’s through fun and games, practical ministry opportunities, or intentional times of encouragement and spiritual seeking, Toccoa Falls College is saturated with a vibrant community of students who participate in diverse and engaging activities. TFC boasts many clubs and organizations that students may join to vitalize their college experience, and earlier in the semester students were exposed to the many different opportunities available to them at the Student Organizations Fair.

Each club had a table and representative in the student center, advertising the club and what it stands for and providing opportunities to get involved. New clubs, young clubs, old clubs—all the many student organizations were there and enthusiastic to provide ways that students can get involved in things they might enjoy. Here is a description of many of the clubs that were present at the fair:

The STEM Club. This club is specifically geared toward those interested in the sciences. STEM is an acronym that stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Medicine, and provides many activities that fuel those interests. This club not only hosts enjoyable events such as game nights during finals, and discussions over hot topics or new discoveries in science, but it also helps students find shadowing opportunities to fulfill required hours. They also occasionally go on trips to colleges to investigate graduate school opportunities.

The Health and Wellness Club. This club is invested in promoting an interest and participation in exercise and nutrition. The club hosts varying activities—such as nutrition classes, tutorials for exercising, and different exercise programs (such as yoga, Tae-Bo, 5ks, etc.).

Toccoa Falls for Life. This club is specifically involved in encouraging a pro-life attitude among the student body. Rather than have bi-weekly meetings like most clubs, this club focuses on hosting large events that are open to the entire student body.

Hmong Student Association. This club focuses on training its members to be capable leaders to serve in Hmong churches and other ministries. Their many events culminate in the spring tour that they organize, where they put to practice all that they have learned. The Hmong student organization is not exclusive to Hmong students! Others are strongly encouraged to join if they are interested.

Rock Climbing Club. The Rock Climbing Club is devoted to providing opportunities for those who enjoy climbing to pursue their interest in it. The club goes on weekly trips to Adrenaline, a climbing gym in Suwanee. This club is looking forward to the imminent opening of a climbing room on campus in one of the racquetball rooms in the Louis Delanie Athletic Center. Expectations are for it to officially be up and running in the middle of October.

Clarkston Outreach. This club is a missionary outreach that goes on monthly trips to the Clarkston Refugee camp to minister to the refugees there. Service options vary, but it is an excellent opportunity to directly get involved with God’s mission in a place where he is powerfully at work. There are also more regular options of involvement for those that would like to be active in Clarkston more regularly.

Running Club. With the discontinuation of the cross-country team, this is a club that provides daily opportunities for those with the passion to exercise through running. The club provides a community of like-minded athletes who will encourage you as you exercise together. The club also participates in races around the community. The Currahee Challenge will be the first race they will participate in. Train hard for an eventually half marathon that the club will support!

The Justice Campaign. This club seeks to materialize the compassionate heart that God has for the lost, lonely, and hurting around us and in the world. The club focuses on issues of social injustice in the world. Such issues that have been focused on are human trafficking and refugees; this year the club will focus on domestic violence. Get involved as the club hosts events in and off campus to raise support and awareness and to serve our neighbors!

Women in Ministry. This club focuses on engaging, empowering, and encouraging the women of Toccoa Falls College. Through emails, blogs, and events, WIM seeks to disciple and build up the women on campus through their education at TFC and assist them through the joys and struggles of life. Shannon Foster, president of the club, is interested in a men’s equivalent of WIM. She is looking for a male student who will step up and pioneer that campaign.

Kokua Conservation Club. “Coming together to admire and protect the handiwork of God,” is the motto of this club. It seeks to positively impact change in TFC and around the community for the environment. By fulfilling our God given role as stewards of this earth, this club desires to worship God through preserving and caring for his creation.

Looking Outside the Frame. This club is oriented around the passion of photography. It provides ample opportunities for photographers to pursue and show off their passion and acquire greater skill in photography. This club is fearlessly led by Mike Young, and he is eagerly anticipating aspiring photographers to join him in leadership of the club!

There other many other clubs—such as the Black Spade Society, the Outdoor Club, the Psychology Club, Student Missions Fellowship, Phi Beta Lambda, The Philosophy Club, and the Fishing Club—that one can get involved in. As one can see, there are plenty of options on campus for one to join intentional community. Don’t hesitate to get involved! The clubs would love you to participate, as they put so much effort to host enjoyable events to make TFC a unique community.
