To celebrate the end of the 2022-2023 NFL season, SGA held a Super Bowl party in Forrest Lobby on Sunday, Feb. 12. The Campus Life team set up speakers and spikeball in the “U” parking lot prior to kickoff. SGA gave students a chance to win a $50 gift card if they could predict the final score.

On the big screen, the Philadelphia Eagles hosted the Kansas City Chiefs at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona. Both teams led their conferences with the highest record of 14-3. According to Fox Sports, the teams were perfectly matched, having 546 points, the number one overall seed, and six players from the Associated Press 2022 All-Pro Team, including brothers Travis and Jason Kelce.

Social media called Super Bowl 57 the "Kelce Bowl," with Travis Kelce playing tight end for the Chiefs and his older brother Jason playing center for the Eagles. On the podcast "New Heights," hosted by Travis and Jason Kelce, they asked their mother, Donna Kelce, who she wanted to win the big game since many fans wanted to know, including them. After reasoning their sides,  Donna Kelce ended the argument: "I'm gonna be screaming the entire game whoever has the ball, I want it to be the highest scoring Super Bowl ever in the history of Super Bowls."

Also playing for the Chiefs is 27-year-old veteran quarterback Patrick Mahomes, who appeared to have the spotlight over him heading into Super Bowl 57 after winning the 2022 Most Valuable Player (MVP) Award. Mahomes led the league in passing yards with 5,520 yards thrown, the most touchdowns with a 41 record, and the highest Total Quarterback Rating (QBR), which was 77.6.

The Philadelphia Eagles started the game strong, finishing the first half leading the Chiefs 24-14.

The halftime show left many fans speechless (except on social media). Rihanna performed a few of her hit songs and showed off her baby bump in a sleek red outfit, casually announcing her second pregnancy. Another famous musician who performed at the Super Bowl was country music artist Chris Stapleton who performed the National Anthem, leading many fans to tears before the game started.

The Eagles struggled in the second half, scoring only 11 points. Kansas City, however, had a dominant second down in the third quarter and gained 17 points in the fourth quarter.

Near the end of the game, Philadelphia Eagles cornerback James Bradberry committed a holding call on Kansas City's receiver Juju Smith-Schuster, resulting in a five-yard penalty and an automatic first down. The following play resulted in a handoff by Patrick Mahomes to running back Jerick McKinnon, who slid near the one-yard line and set up Kansas City to take a knee, call a timeout, and bring out the field goal unit to seal the deal. The Chiefs won Super Bowl 57 with a final score of 38-35.

The Chiefs experienced a similar situation during Super Bowl 54. They trailed the San Francisco 49ers 20-10 going into the fourth quarter, but Mahomes and his team were able to make a comeback and secure a 31-20 victory over the 49ers.

Although Philadelphia Eagles QB Jalen Hurts had the most passing yards, throwing 304 yards with 27 completions out of 38 attempts, Patrick Mahomes won Super Bowl 57 MVP. Kansas City Chiefs Head Coach, Andy Reid, earned his second Lombardi Trophy. His previous trophy was earned in Philadelphia as a coach for the Eagles.

The Kansas City Chiefs are the Super Bowl 57 champions, and that concludes the 2022-2023 NFL Season.
