People of TFC: Talia Hatch

This month, we sat down with Talia Hatch to get to know her, and talk about her part in building the community here at TFC. Talia Hatch is a Junior this year, and is majoring in Cross Cultural Studies. She is involved heavily in both the volleyball team and in res-life, but you can also find her studying with friends and building community in everyday situations. She came to the school after searching for a college in a few avenues, and fell in love with the campus while on a tour. Talia said she was drawn to TFC's vast beauty and small community.

When she arrived on campus, she quickly got involved in volleyball. She did not intend to play in college, but after some encouragement from Coach Slate, she tried out and got on the team. Talia has continued to play on the volleyball team each year she has been here. She spoke about her gratitude for the experience in pushing her to become involved in college. Talia explained that the volleyball team provided her first friends when she arrived at college. She says: "You connect with people because you're going through a lot of physical exertion and emotional exertion. Especially in a game situation." She also credits her participation in volleyball with building her ability to manage her time. Having to balance a sport with school and relationships has helped her to develop time management skills that have helped her throughout her college career.

Talia got involved in res-life by applying at the recommendation of her freshman RA. She credits the opportunity to be an RA directly to God's hand. There are many unique experiences that only happen when you are involved in res-life. She says: "It's not like you clock in, clock out, you're an RA all the time." Talia commits to being an RA as her full-time job. She explained that res-life has taught her that "school is why we are here, but there is still something greater than school... it should not be a top priority over relationships and God." Talia has used her time as an RA to help her residents to understand this fact, and has grown both in selflessness and leadership in her role.

Talia is loved by many and she returns that love to all those on campus. Her continuing time in volleyball and res-life has proved just how much she loves the people of TFC. When asked what she would like to be remembered for, she said she would like to be remembered for the little things, and not necessarily for a grand identity. Those that know her, know that this is indeed what she will be remembered for, along with so much more. Talia will undoubtedly be remembered for both her quirky sense of humor and her tender and compassionate heart.
