Mr. TFC 2022
The 2022 Mr. TFC competition dazzled Toccoa Falls College students on the night of March 4. This year’s nominees were freshman Kolten Welch, sophomore Sean Brett, junior Wilfred Howe, and senior Michael Olesky. After five rounds of competition that included a lip sync battle, a talent portion, a game of charades, and a “How-To” presentation, the votes were counted! An enthusiastic drum roll filled the room, and Sean Brett was announced as Mr. TFC 2022! The sophomore winner was then presented with the Golden Plunger and a Chick-Fil-A gift card.
Woerner Missions was colorfully decorated like a 1970’s game show. Smoke machines, bright lights and speakers supplemented the creativity of each nominee. To start off the night, Welch performed a lip-sync mashup of four songs complete with costumes, a ukulele and backup dancers. Next, Brett was escorted to the stage in a wheelbarrow. Dawning a championship belt around his waist, he treated the audience to a “Mr. TFC Edition” of his rap song “Lockdown,” featuring Forrest RA Kyle Bennett (AKA “Kenney B”). Then, Howe brought the laughs with a biblical parody lip-sync of “Hey There Delilah,” featuring SGA Executive Council member Jacob Hunt as Delilah. Lastly, Olesky capitalized on the recent craze of Disney’s “Encanto” with a one-man performance of “We Don’t Talk About Bruno'' - complete with character props and lipstick.
The nominees were determined to keep the crowd’s attention during the talent portion. Brett strummed an electric guitar and was then handed a jar of mayonnaise. There was a stunned silence, and Brett quickly consumed the condiment before running towards the nearest napkin dispenser. Comedic education seemed to be Olesky’s specialty as he read “Dr. Seuss’s ABC” book aloud, giving detailed explanations as he progressed. Wearing a pink tutu, Welch and his duet partner, freshman Marcus Perrotto, married the worlds of ballet, 80’s pop rock and the classic school-yard game of ‘Don’t Drop The Ball’ in a performance to Bonnie Tyler’s “Total Eclipse of the Heart.” With teased hair and an Expo marker, Howe closed the talent portion by depicting Bob Ross and drawing a natural landscape onstage, reminding all who would listen that there are no such things as mistakes.
In the final competition, the nominees momentarily put aside their competitive spirits. The task was to manufacture creative narrations to accompany random images on a screen. The nominees kept the audience laughing by encouraging them to eat their alarm clocks and steer clear of grandma’s killer feline.
As Mr. TFC 2022 came to a close, friends of the four beloved nominees shared memories and prompted the crowd to vote for their friends. The fierce but friendly competition soon became a roaring celebration as Brett was crowned “Mr. TFC” and embraced by friends — new and old. The victorious sophomore joins a distinguished group of past winners and has proven himself to be worthy of the accolade.
