Dante Edwards: 2017 Future Scholars Winner
Winning Future Scholars is an exciting thing. It is not an easy task to compete against fifty students for this honor. Dante Edwards became the latest future scholar when he won the competition this past November. Dante is from Duluth, Georgia. At seventeen, he is the second oldest of four children. He plans on majoring in Ministry Leadership. He enjoys logic puzzles, exercise, and “growing food.” His favorite sports to play are basketball and football; however, he adds that he is “very injury prone.” Two interesting facts about him are that his tongue is deformed, and he can write with both hands.
When it comes to Future Scholars, Dante says that winning this award feels “unreal.” He adds that when he received the news, he “had a TON of trouble actually believing it” and said he is “so blessed to not have to cost my parents anything and so excited to go to TFC.” Dante was shocked to find out, saying that “I had to put down everything I was holding and make sure I was braced. I might have blacked out for a little.”
Dante Edwards carries on the Future Scholars tradition by being the fifth annual winner. This prestigious competition gives high school seniors the opportunity to see the school and the lifestyle of the students. One of the most important things about TFC and future scholars is the biblical aspect; Dante’s favorite verse is Psalms 42:1, “As the deer pants for streams of water, so my soul pants for you, my God” (NIV) which perfectly expresses TFC’s thirst for “Building Godly character with intellect.”
