Theatrical Society Releases Radio Play

It is finally time! After weeks of rehearsal, the Theatrical Society at TFC announced the premiere of the spring 2021 play, The 39 Steps: A Live Radio Play. A trailer for the play can be viewed here. The play premiered in the Odyssey Coffeehouse on April 9 from 7-9 p.m. and April 10 from 6-9 p.m. If you missed the event, you can listen to the whole play on Spotify from April 9-23.

Due to COVID-19 restrictions on a normal play production, the Theatrical Society recorded a radio play with the help of Eagle Radio. One of the members gave us a little sneak peek into what went on during the play's production: “We recorded the play on March 15. It took a little longer than I think anyone thought it would, but it was fun... We recorded it in the Publications office in Forrest Basement. The equipment was super sensitive, so anyone who was not recording was out in the hallway doing homework or watching a muted nature documentary that was playing on Netflix.”

The 39 Steps is based on the 1935 movie of the same name. The play tells the story of Richard Hannay, an ordinary man in London who gets caught in a twisted game after meeting Annabella Smith, a spy trying to prevent a dangerous secret from leaving London. Shortly after they meet, Annabella is killed. Hannay is left on the run from the police as he takes over her mission to answer the same question you may be pondering: what are the 39 Steps? No one is who they seem to be, and Richard Hannay must learn that as he tries to survive. The directors of the play, Joe Dunn and Caris Schoolcraft, have done their best to present a thrilling mystery with twists and turns around every corner.
