Prayer and Worship Night

You may have heard that there are prayer and worship nights during the week on campus. These meetings were first held by students at TFC starting four years ago in the Forrest pingpong room! Through hard work and God’s grace, they have continued to grow along the way. I met with Brett Warner and Aubrey Reiland, who are part of the leadership of these meetings, to learn more.

There are two meetings a week held in the Grace Chapel foyer. There is a prayer night on Mondays from 8:00-10:00 p.m., and a worship night on Thursdays from 9:00-11:00 p.m. Brett stated that their mission is to minister to the heart of God. To both him and Aubrey, this looks like acknowledging God for who he is and sitting in his presence.

The focus of the prayer night is learning how to talk to God in new ways, while in fellowship with one another. It is an opportunity to come together corporately and approach the throne of the Father. Aubrey remarked that the prayer nights helped her learn how to relate to God the Father personally and not in such a distant way. Last year, the group wanted to explore different ways to dialogue with God during this time together. They decided to try new prayer practices that turned out to be fun and meaningful. One practice they tried was meditating on the events of their day and looking for moments where God’s work was evident. Ultimately, prayer nights are about focusing on God and putting aside time for him.

The goal of the worship night is to specifically take time out to focus on God, explore and know him, and then reflect that back in worship. Brett pointed to Psalms 132:7-9 as a passage that reflects the heart students have for these nights:

“‘Let us go to his dwelling place;

    let us worship at his footstool!’

 Arise, O Lord, and go to your resting place,

    you and the ark of your might.

 Let your priests be clothed with righteousness,

    and let your saints shout for joy.”

Brett went on to explain that the team considers the worship nights as a special time to gather at the Lord’s footstool and worship God with joy. For example, on September 23 students held a dual immersion worship in Spanish and English for Spanish Heritage month. They wanted to celebrate our Hispanic brothers and sisters around the world and honor God through multilingual worship.

Students, professors, parents, babies, etc.—everyone is invited! Come out and experience one of these evenings for yourself!
