People of TFC: Kat Terrell
Kathryn Terrell, better known as Kat, has made quite an impact on the TFC community. While Kat is a part of the TFC community, her family is from Cumming, GA. A junior majoring in Counseling Psychology, Kat hopes to one day work doing some kind of counseling or therapy, potentially even overseas. Currently, Kat works at Odyssey Coffeehouse while also being a RA and the president of Clarkston Refugee Missions. Aside from on-campus extracurriculars and jobs, Kat is also a part of the community at Grace Fellowship Church. One fun-fact about Kat: she loves to be outside enjoying nature.
As a whole, Kat says that the hardest part of her TFC experience has been “navigating various relational dynamics.” While Kat is involved in many different things, she views her leadership roles as a way to encourage others. When asked about her impact on TFC, Kat explains that “My mission here as an RA and friend is to make sure those under my care feel heard, seen, and remembered. My mission as President of CRM is to remind our student body to look outside of themselves and towards those who need help and who need Jesus.” ResLife can be a bit of a challenge, with Kat explaining that the hardest part of ResLife is the requirement of “significant amounts of my mental, emotional, and physical energy.” The job comes with a reward though, as Kat shares that her favorite aspect of ResLife is the level of growth it brings to not only herself, but anyone involved.
Kat believes she has experienced a large amount of self-development while at TFC, explaining that she has grown in “maturity, understanding, and empathy. My ability to feel compassion for other people has developed significantly. My ability to listen well and be present with those who are hurting without inserting my advice has also grown. I am able to better get along with people who are a lot different from me.” This personal growth has been Kat’s favorite part of being a TFC student, as she feels that “TFC has given me the space and freedom to become who the Lord has created me to be.” When asked what she would say to a prospective TFC student, Kat shared that she would tell anyone who was interested that they should “not expect to come here and stay the same person you are today. The Lord – along with this school – is in the business of growth.”
