More Fun Dessert Recipes For Your Next Holiday Party
Attending a party this holiday season and in need of a dessert recipe that is quick, easy and delicious? Here are some last-minute, classic recipes that your friends and family will love.
1. Crunchy Peanut Butter Chocolate Balls
This treat is easy to make, delicious to eat and sure to be a hit at your next Christmas gathering! Feel free to double the recipe if desired.
What You’ll Need: 1 package of graham crackers (crushed into crumbs), 4 or 5 sticks of butter, 2 one-pound boxes of powdered sugar, 1 eight-ounce pack of frozen coconut, 1 cup of pecans, 1 cup of crunchy peanut butter, 2 packs of semi-sweet chocolate, and 1 bar of edible gulf wax
Directions: Mix all of the ingredients together and roll them into balls. Stick toothpicks in them and put them in the freezer to chill for at least an hour. Finally, melt wax in a double boiler then add chocolate. Dip the balls and then put on wax paper. Let sit and then enjoy!
2. Homemade Banana Bread
A true crowd-pleaser. Here’s what you’ll need: 1/2 cup of vegetable oil, 2 eggs, 3 ripe bananas (mashed), 2 cups of sugar, 2 cups of self-rising flour, 1/2 cup of pecans, and a pinch of salt
Directions: Preheat oven to 350 F. Mix ingredients well (by hand). Grease loaf pans and pour in the mixture. Bake for 40-45 minutes. Let cool and then enjoy.
3. Haystacks
This treat is fun and delicious! Here’s what you’'ll need: 1 and a half cups butterscotch baking chips, 2/3 cup creamy peanut butter, 3 ounces of chow mein noodles (uncooked), 1/2 cup of salted peanuts, and 1 bar of edible gulf wax
Directions: Melt wax and butterscotch chips, then add peanut butter. Next, add uncooked chow mein noodles and peanuts. Finally, spoon mixture onto wax paper and let harden. Enjoy!
4. Chocolate-covered cherry “rats” (pictured with haystacks)
This treat is sure to amaze! Here’s what you’ll need: 1 or 2 jars of Maraschino cherries, slivered almonds, Hershey’s kisses, red edible decorating gel, 2 packs of semi-sweet baking morsels, and 1 bar of edible gulf wax
Directions: Pat cherries dry, melt chocolate and wax. Next, dip cherries. Let cherries cool. Then, attach Hershey’s kiss to eat cherry with decorating gel (to look like a nose). Next, attach slivered almonds to the sides of the Hershey’s kisses with decorating gel. Use decorating gel to create “eyes” for your “rats”. Enjoy!
5. Red Velvet Cake
You’ll love this old fashioned favorite! Here’s what you’ll need: 3 eggs, 1 and a half cups of vegetable oil, 1 and a half cups of sugar, 1 cup of buttermilk, 2 and 1/4 cups of flour, one teaspoon of baking soda, 1/4 teaspoon salt, one teaspoon of vanilla extract, one teaspoon of white vinegar, 1 tablespoon of cocoa powder, and 1 bottle of red food coloring. For frosting, you’ll need 1 stick of margarine, 8 ounces of cream cheese, one box of powered sugar, 1 cup of chopped pecans.
Directions: Cream oil and sugar, then add eggs. Sift flour, baking soda, and salt. Add dry mixture and buttermilk. Add cocoa powder and food coloring. Fold in vanilla extract and white vinegar. Bake at 350 F for 35 minutes. Let cool, remove from pan, and garnish with pecans or cake crumbs.
6. Homemade Pecan Pie
Here’s another classic to bring to your next family gathering.
What You’ll Need: 3 eggs, 1 cup of sugar, 1 cup of Karo syrup, 2 tablespoons of melted butter, 1 and a half cup of pecans, and 1 unbaked deep-dish pie shell
Directions: Mix ingredients together, pour mixture into pie shell, and bake at 350 F for 60-70 minutes.
