Get to Know TFC Alumnus Isaac Robinson
Isaac Robinson graduated from Toccoa Falls College in May 2022 with a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration. Today, he is touring the country and taking home victories in the professional disc golf industry.
Robinson was raised as one of eight siblings in Lawrenceville, Ga. Growing up, his family introduced him to disc golf. After playing for almost 10 years as a hobby, Robinson decided to play professionally at 15 years old. He competed primarily in local tournaments until after graduation, when he joined the Disc Golf Pro Tour full time. He came in ninth place last season after playing half the 2022 Pro Tour, and he is looking forward to what this season brings. In February, Robinson started his second year competing on the professional tour, where he is sponsored by Prodigy Disc Golf. He credits much of his success to his time at TFC.
Robinson began his studies at TFC in the fall of 2019. In just three years, he plugged into campus life in many ways. Robinson served as a very intentional RA who poured into his residents during his final year on campus. He could often be found supporting TFC SGA and Athletics at community and sporting events across campus. He says his favorite SGA event to participate in was Spy Games, because of the chaotic energy and adrenaline rush.
Well-known and beloved by the people on campus, Robinson was known as a guy who was always willing to help and support others, and his joyful attitude was contagious to those around him. He says some of his favorite memories at TFC were game nights in the Odyssey Coffeehouse, staying up late with friends before 8 a.m., and playing intramural sports such as soccer and ultimate frisbee with friends.
Besides all the fun and games of campus and residence life, TFC is full of opportunities that led Robinson to the place he is today.
“TFC prepared me for my career in many ways. From an academic perspective, my Business Administration degree has prepared me for negotiating contracts, growing a brand, and discussing business opportunities. It has even gotten me job offers from specific companies that manufacture and produce disc golf equipment,” Robinson says. “In terms of personal development, TFC had a huge impact on my relationship with God and others.”
Robinson is a professing Christian, which means he is in a minority in the disc golf community. He says he has been given many opportunities to exclaim his faith. Robinson views his platform as a positive way to image Christ, and he prays for many more opportunities to share the Gospel.
“God has given me a talent that provides a platform for me to share the Gospel and give Him glory. I try to reflect my Savior both on and off the course in my conduct, attitude, and interactions with others,” Robinson says.
Robinson also spent much of his time at TFC on the disc golf course by himself, with friends, and with mentors Wynn Coggin, Forrest Hall Resident Director, and Andrew Thorne, Vice President for Distance Education. Robinson even led a group to start a disc golf club on campus and a team to compete in a collegiate disc golf tournament.
Robinson says students should find a mentor on campus during their time at TFC.
“Find a faculty member or professor that [you] can meet regularly with and just talk to. I had the opportunity to meet weekly with Wynn Coggin and Andrew Thorne (many times it was playing disc golf), and it transformed my time at TFC,” Robinson says. “It was not only an enjoyable time but also provided a way for me to learn from men who were further along in life than I was.”
Robinson also encourages students to make the most of their time at TFC by becoming involved on campus – even in the summer!
“I would recommend spending a summer on campus before you graduate. Whether that means working on campus or being a summer RA, it is a worthwhile experience, and you get to see another side of TFC that you don’t see during the normal semesters,” Robinson says. “It’s a great way to get to know and deepen relationships with the people that are also staying over the summer even if you don’t know them very well. Plus, you can swim in the pond every day!”
As a professional disc golfer, Robinson gets to travel the country and maybe even Europe during this year’s Disc Golf Pro Tour.
“At this point I have driven from the east coast to the west coast twice and every time I’m blown away by the scenery and beautiful sights that I’ve gotten to see,” Robinson says.
