Athlete Spotlight: Baseball
Toccoa Falls senior Austin Shea, #23, has been a pitcher on the Screaming Eagles baseball team since 2014.
Austin has been playing baseball since the age of five and pitching since the age of nine. While he is very talented now, he stated that "it wasn’t always that way," and that "it took a lot of practice and help from my dad for me to get better at pitching." Not only does he enjoy playing baseball, but he also loves to watch it. His favorite team is the Atlanta Braves.
When asked about his favorite part of playing baseball, Austin said, “I enjoy the community that the team brings. Chemistry is such an important thing when it comes to the sport. We are all brothers on and off the field. Being able to represent the school wherever I go is very special to me. Individual success can only go so far but being able to grow with my brothers and the Lord in my time on the field is the main goal. Every pitch is a blessing from the Lord.”
Not only is Austin a part of the community of the baseball team, but he is also a resident assistant in the Terraces. He really enjoys the connections and experience that he has had during his time in Residence Life. In his free time, he enjoys running, crossfit, and playing video games. He is pursuing a degree in business and administration.
Austin was originally recruited to Toccoa Falls College through the baseball coach at the time. He wanted to continue to grow his relationship with the Lord through college. Even though he attended a large high school and TFC was much different, the Lord was calling Austin here. Regarding his time at TFC, he states, "I haven't regretted a day being here."
